Sunrise presenter Mylee Hogan was kicked off the breakfast show’s studio table after an audience reacted to a joke that Australian cricketer Glenn McGrath had died.
Hogan made an odd joke after a report about the TikTok trend, in which children videotaped their parents’ shock when a favorite celebrity is reported to have died.
The episode stunned its co-hosts who tried to get an interview with former speed bowler McGrath, but Hogan later blurted out: «Glenn McGrath is dead!»
Hogan disappeared from the table of the flagship show’s presenters this week without any explanation, after Daily Mail Australia announced the anger of viewers on Friday.
She returned to Sunrise on Thursday—but just 13 days after the show accepted her into the new desk role, she was demoted to reporter duty again on the road.
Sunrise presenter Mylee Hogan was kicked off the breakfast show’s studio table after an audience reacted to a joke that Australian cricketer Glenn McGrath had died.
Hogan had only surfaced as a studio host on December 23, before his eruption on December 28.
At the time, he told co-hosts Monique Wright and Mark Beretta that he was more than happy to leave his role as a reporter on the road to present the news in the studio.
«Good to be here guys,» he smiled. «It’s a nice temperature, I know where the bathroom is, where the coffee is – it’s very comfortable.»
But days later, he was sent back to the streets when his clumsy attempt at humor backfired.

New Sunrise host Mylee Hogan disappeared from TV screens without explanation on January 3 after Daily Mail Australia expressed fan anger over her comment.
Angry Sunrise fans branded the comment as insensitive after McGrath’s wife, Jane, died of breast cancer in 2008, promising to boycott Seven’s show if Hogan stays.
On Tuesday, Edwina Bartholomew took her place at the end of the table as Hogan’s news anchor, while Monique Wright took the floor next to Mark Beretta.
And he returned to the screen on Thursday – but outside the studio and working as a reporter, reporting on the city’s population growth from near Sydney Harbor Bridge.
His relegation from the desk role was not mentioned in the broadcast, and Seven declined to comment when contacted by Daily Mail Australia on Thursday.

Surprised viewers criticized new Sunrise reporter Mylee Hogan (pictured) for joking that cricketer Glenn McGrath died during an episode of the TikTok spree.
Co-host Mark Beretta ended his report on TikTok fake death videos early, branding it «the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen.»
I didn’t like it. We shouldn’t run this. Take it out. Get out now,’ he said.
Hogan said he thought the brutal social media frenzy was «really funny» and insisted on co-hosting Beretta and Edwina Bartholomew, «it was kind of fun!»
But while Beretta continued to talk to former Australian speed bowler McGrath about the Boxing Day Test, Hogan infuriated fans with his twisted joke about the star’s death.
The off-camera but clearly heard comment sparked an angry backlash from Beretta and co-host Edwina Bartholomew.

«No… that’s not funny at all,» Bartholomew said as Hogan laughed. Beretta added: «I don’t get it at all. It’s not funny at all. This is insane…»
The stern Bartholomew immediately apologized to the audience and added: «It’s not funny. Excuse me.’
The show then went on to interview McGrath, whose wife Jane died of breast cancer in 2008, about the third day of the Second Test against South Africa.
It sparked an angry reaction from some viewers, who promised to boycott the show if Hogan stays on screen.
«If that black-haired girl is reading the news again, we won’t be watching Sunrise anymore,» one fan of the show said on Facebook.
Please get that girl off Channel 7 – we’ll get sick every time we see her face.
He made a comment about Glenn McGrath’s death and laughed. Doesn’t he know that Glenn’s first wife, Jane, tragically died of breast cancer?

Hogan blurted out the phrase «Glenn McGrath is dead» just before his interview with the Australian speed bowler, whose wife, Jane, died of breast cancer in 2008.
«It doesn’t matter if he apologized, he didn’t do anything wrong in his mind.» How immature and insensitive.’
Another viewer tweeted: «Horrible, terrible, unpleasant «joke», especially when the next guest loses their spouse, pranking people that someone died. Please don’t repost.’
Hogan has previously played clips of TikTok videos showing the dramatic reactions of parents to fake news about the deaths of stars like Zac Efron and Oprah Winfrey.
«Some people think the overreaction is funny, while others think it’s a cruel joke,» Hogan said.
«I personally think this is really funny guys! A little fun!»
However, he was immediately subdued by the co-hosts at the Sunrise desk and ordered the news report to stop there.
«I think it shows the generational divide because Beretts thinks it’s not funny at all,» said Bartholomew.
Viewers were also enraged by the segment and took to social media to voice their anger.
«We thought it was disgusting,» Kelvin Mills said on the series’ Facebook page.
“Look at the faces in his story, people were distracted when they were told about these fake deaths.
«Yeah, at the time these people were told it was fake news, but that wouldn’t easily take away the nausea in their stomach.»
«Clearly he’s too young to have death on his side.»

Viewers were also enraged by the segment and took to social media to voice their anger.
One user added: «You’re right – it’s sickening. I call it offensive.’
Another said, «I totally agree, it was terrible, Beretts was horrified too. He went on and laughed. Go back to everything off-screen for him.’
